Create or Edit Student Seating Layout for a Course
In SchoolFront there are a number of different ways that a teacher can take attendance. At the beginning of the school year or marking period, when students may be new to the teacher, a seating chart with student pictures can be employed.
To take attendance using a seating chart, the teacher must create the seating chart for the class after they have gone through the process of ensuring that students are enrolled in the course in the system. Teachers can also print seating charts.
Here is what the seating chart page will look like when the teacher is done configuring it:
Teachers can take attendance from this seating chart page page like they can from the Daily Planner page or Attendance page.
If a teacher will be out of class, he or she can print the seating chart with student images for the substitute teacher to use in his or her absence.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Create a Seating Chart for a Course
Note: A seating chart for a course can be edited/changed by the teacher as frequently as is necessary throughout the marking period by following these steps.
1. Login to SchoolFront as a teacher.
2. Select Preferences from the left navigation menu.
3. Choose the Course for which you would like to configure a seating chart.
4. Scroll down to the Student Seating section.
5. In the Student Seating section enter the number of Rows and Columns for seating and the Teacher Desk Position. Make sure that there are enough chairs for the students you have enrolled in the class.
6. Click the Submit Seating button to save the rows, columns, and teacher desk position.
7. Click the Edit Student Seating link.
8. The seating chart with rows, columns, and the teacher desk position you saved will appear.
9. You can either have the system automatically assign students to seats alphabetically by last name by clicking the Alphabetical Seating button, or you can assign each student a seat using the drop-down menus.
Note: If a student is missing from the drop-down menu, it means that you have not yet enrolled them in the course. See Course Enrollment for instructions.
10. If you have an unusual seating layout, or if there are more chairs than students, you can leave seats unassigned. See below for an example:
11. When you have finished assigning all students to seats, there should be zero students in the Number of Students Not in Seats.
12. The changes will be automatically saved by the system and you can begin taking attendance from the Seating page.
