There are times when you may want to grade coursework that is only available to a subset of the students enrolled in your course.  This could be make-up assignments, extra credit or a personalized curriculum.  When in the gradebook, you can use the grade "ex" for the students that are not expected to hand in the assignment.  "Ex" represents excused and the grade will be ignored for those students.
